# Why this publication exists

> About the MedWell Med Spa publication — MedWell Med Spa is a personal editorial publication about published research and the meaning of doing well, with no medical business or treatment service.

**About this publication**

Growing well and living well sound comfortably close. Their different participants complicate the comfortable impression those phrases give me.

## The title MedWell Med Spa

MedWell Med Spa is the title of this site. It does not identify an operating med spa, clinic or medical practice. There is no prescribing service, shop, shipping operation or booking desk here.

The published research puts particulars against the phrase growing well. An adolescent BMI result, an adult weight change and the prospect of fewer events during an existing illness each put something particular into that broad word. The changes in ambition across a life seem a more substantial subject than a single flattering verdict about a medicine.

The [semaglutide adolescent trial](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36322838/) gives that argument a starting point: a BMI result in adolescents with obesity. That finding matters even as I resist filling a young person's future with conclusions drawn from [SELECT participants with preexisting cardiovascular disease and overweight or obesity without diabetes](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37952131/), or FLOW participants with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease.

## Age, illness and expectation

Preservation appeals to me: something valuable continuing, with less trouble around it. That is why the [kidney outcome in FLOW](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38785209/) has a place here. My enthusiasm attaches to that trial's people with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease, and to its particular outcome. A broad word such as wellness does not erase those particulars.

I also dislike the pressure to deliver a verdict on a whole medicine after discussing one result. A health question can remain worth pursuing while the answer becomes less comfortable. The eye finding in the [heart essay](/heart-record) and the [safety discussion](/tolerability) belong in the same room as the favourable outcomes.

## Medical decisions

This publication is not medical advice. No page assesses a reader's symptoms, medical history or treatment options. Those decisions need a qualified healthcare professional who can consider the person concerned.

The argument is open to disagreement. The [reading list](/references) contains the reports at the centre of it. The [contact page](/contact) states the current position on correspondence and describes the information that makes a factual correction possible.
